What is an Orthodontist?
An Orthodontist is a dental specialist who practices Orthodontics (Ortho). Orthodontists are dentists who have completed an additional 2 to 3 year of additional training (residency program) at a dental institution that is accredited by the American Dental Association.
An orthodontist treats the misaligned teeth, Temporo-Mandibular Joint (jaw joint) problems, Malocclusion (bite problems), and facial development with braces, retainers, headgear, aligners, and other methods.
Some general dentist have had additional training in placing and offering braces, but only a dentist that has completed the additional years of training and education after dental school is an orthodontist.
